It would be good to see you’ve still got this thing like 10 years or so later from now on and still taking good care of it.Sometimes, people raves about their favorite gears that they use and couple of months later, they forget about it and got other new stuff.

@ItsMyNaturalColour Good to know. I have the Tibook. and was considering being a bit conservative buying a new newbook by getting the aluminum. I guess both Powerbook G4 models can’ t perform a proper HD playback.

Hey! I have one of those too, passed down as inheritance, except mine is a 17″ 1.33GHz G4 with the Radeon Mobility 9600 64MB VRAM, and 1.5GBs of RAM and a puny 80GB HDD. My PowerBook has been replaced by an inherited Mac Mini Intel Core Duo 1.66GHz, which packs twice the punch of my PB.

@Hemlockrox95 dont bother your ipad is probably as powerfull if not more than a powerbook g4. seeing as you can’t watch hd video on a powerbook as well as otherthings. you will be better off trading your ipad for an intel powered mac ,or pc if you can’t afford one.

@artisthecure789 Maybe your network is set to a new protocol which you system cannot handle. Try upgrading to Leopard and it should work. (Or, reset your network…)

My beloved Powerbook G4 died a pitbull/green tea death :( … It was my first Mac, and even at its old age, it ran circles around newer PCs … I named it Doug :p … And I vowed NEVER to go back to PC …

I recently acquired a “15 Macbook Pro (2010) named Carl :P … With Doug’s brain transferred of course … But even though I should be happy I still miss Doug!! What is it with the Powerbook G4′s!? And I do concur on the keyboard! Just feels right beneath the fingers :)

I owned one of these. Good PowerBook, but in my case, the CD/DVD slot drive section caved in after constant normal pro use.

I started noticing cracks right around the center top of the slot and then it kept cracking and caving in to the point that the structure of the right palm rest and optical drive housing started touching and scratching discs.

They improved with later models of course, but that was my experience. I used OS 9 mostly, loved that OS.

Remember when music videos were uploaded by users and not VEVO

Remember when there wasn’t advertisements that never go away?

@dinnerandashow actually Apple has been using NVIDIA GPUs for a very long time, but not as long as the ATI/AMD chips, they’ve had the GeForce 2 MX in some Power Mac G4s and iMac G4s and the NVIDIA GeForce 420 Go/440 Go/FX 5200 Go in the Aluminium PowerBooks 2003 12″/17″ and 12″ 04/05.

@TomHopkins24 This machine was introduced in 2001 so the Macbook Pro 2006 2.1 is better by miles.

If you check the benchmarks on many computer hardware sites Intel processors are more then two times faster then PowerPCs. The Core2Duos beat PowerPC chips in both power consumption and performance.

  • Chintendoeddman says:

@Btroisi13 I see your point, but Apple switched to Intel not for the speed. Shortly after the Powemac and Imac G5′s came out, Apple wanted to make a powerbook G5. However, the processor would suck up to much power to make the battery last long. So they switched over to Intel for the power efficiency,

What’s better this or MacBook late 2006 2,1

    November 26, 2011 at 3:32 pm
  • segr3do says:

@Btroisi13 Time changes, technology changes… sometimes what is worst could be better in the future. For ex, Intel in late 90 was really slow and PowerPC huge… Intel became better with multi-core tecnology, less power usage, etc… and PowerPC “slept on time” … and moral of the story, I think its true, Apple always gave us the best computers on the right time…wich that for me, is all the matters.

    November 26, 2011 at 4:12 pm
  • adryanv says:

@Btroisi13 Times change my friend. For example, before the PowerPC was indeed more powerful then the Intel chips on that generation. But intel eventually caught up with the Core Duo. :)
